Mousehole Beaches
Mousehole has just one beach in the working harbour and a nearby rock pool, both within walking distance from the town centre. Please note that there is a seasonal dog ban on the beach and further information is detailed below.
Harbour beach
Whilst being one of the prettiest fishing villages in Cornwall, Mousehole is not known for its sandy beaches. However, there are two beaches here - a pebbly/rocky beach with a small pool on the Newlyn side of town in front of the Old Coastguard Hotel, and a wonderfully sandy little beach inside the famous harbour.
Mousehole's harbour beach is actually one of the best family beaches around. The little sun-trap sits within the sturdy granite piers and there is never more than a ripple here. The water is very clean considering this is a working harbour. Backed by the village, there is no shortage of food and drink options, and there are public toilets at either end.
The harbour beach consists of two areas of sand which you can easily walk between on lower tides. In case you are wondering why the beaches here are so beautifully sandy, it's actually shipped in.
The rocky section of coast just to the north of Mousehole is home to a small tidal bathing pool as well as a number of rock pools.

There are slipways leading to the beaches on both sides of the harbour. The slip on the main section of sand is quite steep whereas the one leading to the carpark is much easier to manage.
Rockpool
The Mousehole rock pool is located near the Old Coastguard at the start of the village. This tidal pool offers a beautiful, panoramic views of Mount’s Bay and across to St Michael’s Mount and even further to the Lizard Peninsula.
The Mousehole rock pool is a shallow, man-made tidal pool created by forming a concrete dam to subside the tide. Created in the 20th century, its purpose was to preserve the ebbing tides. As there weren’t any swimming centres back in the 20th century, this tidal pool was built for the local children to learn to swim in a secure environment and is now seen around the UK coastline.
Today, the Mousehole rock pool stands as a testament to the ingenuity and foresight of those who built it. It serves not only as a piece of Cornish history but also as a beloved gathering place for residents and visitors to Cornwall. Mousehole rock pool never fails to bewilder your imagination, it is a haven for a refreshing cold swim, a place where memories are made and stories are shared over the tranquil settings of Mount’s Bay.
