Nurturing Our Trees at the St Ives Orchard and Nature Reserve
Earlier this year, we were thrilled to celebrate Cornish Riviera Holidays’ 40th birthday by planting 40 native saplings at Penbeagle Nature Reserve. Since then, we’ve been keeping our promise to care for the trees and we’re excited to share the progress!
Over the past few months, our team has returned to the reserve to attend to the saplings we planted, as well as other trees throughout the site. From watering and mulching to checking for signs of disease or stress, we’ve been dedicated to helping these young trees establish strong roots and grow healthy and resilient. These efforts are particularly important as the winter season approaches, ensuring that the trees are well-prepared to withstand colder temperatures and harsher conditions.
It’s been incredible to see the reserve continue to flourish. The oak, rowan, hazel, and birch saplings that we planted are thriving and the surrounding woodland is full of life. In fact, next month we are hoping to install deer guards to further protect the saplings – yes, there are now deer in the nature reserve! Thanks to the ongoing work of St Ives Orchard and our volunteers, Penbeagle Nature Reserve is growing into an even more vibrant haven for wildlife and the local community.
Caring for the environment is at the heart of what we do at Cornish Riviera Holidays. Planting trees was a wonderful start, but nurturing them over time ensures that our contribution will have a lasting impact for generations to come. We extend our heartfelt thanks to St Ives Orchard and everyone who has helped during these follow-up visits. Your dedication makes a real difference in the growth of this precious space.
If you haven’t visited Penbeagle Nature Reserve recently, now is the perfect time to see how these efforts are helping the woodland thrive. There’s no better way to witness the fruits of a little love, care, and community spirit!
