May holidays in St Ives, Cornwall

May and June are secretly our favourite months – it’s warmer, the kids are still at school, and all the window boxes, hanging baskets and little gardens in town are all bursting with colour as is, of course, the surrounding countryside.

Cottages have been repainted, sleepy businesses throw open their doors and everyone is full is hope and anticipation after the quieter, wet and windy winter months.  Everyone can take advantage of warmer and longer evenings by spending extra hours on the beach, enjoying a glass or two of your favourite drink, tucking into a picnic and watching the sunset.  Simply put, the towns of St Ives and Mousehole are at their best!

Exploring the towns’ many boutiques and artisan shops is a pleasure at this time of year – new stock, more choice and less crowded, need we say more? Many restaurants and eateries have new menus to try and it’s easier to get a table although we do still recommend that you book ahead to avoid disappointment. And with so many traditional pubs on your doorstep, you are spoilt for choice.

Of course, we can’t guarantee the weather (if only!) but you should be able to ditch your heavy-duty, winter walking boots and stride out along the South West Coast Path in either direction in lighter, more comfy walking shoes, feel the sun on your shoulders as you marvel at the purple heathers, bright yellow gorse and white hawthorn as they put on the best show you could ever see.

Jump in the car, put the roof down and explore the opposite coast, stumble across secret coves and hidden beaches and find new places to explore. Cornwall is a magnificent county although we are a little biased!

Bear in mind though, if you are restricted to school holidays, we do still have some half-term availability but don’t leave it too long as it is booking up fast!
